Scholarships
The African Women's Cancer Awareness Association (AWCAA) presents ONYEKA STACEY IDOYE MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP and LUCY ADABA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.
The AWCAA board will like you to nominate or recommend a student who exhibits all the below qualifications for this scholarship. The general eligibility, selection and application requirements are listed below.
Student must be an African individual who is:
- Between 18 to 26 years of age
- Enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate full-time degree in the medical field (preferably cancer related studies), diploma or certificate program at an American college or university for the academic year commencing in the year in which the scholarship is granted. Students commencing their studies in the spring 2011 are eligible.
- A sophomore or junior in financial need with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Actively contributing to the African Diaspora. (E.g. active member of African groups or associations that positively promote the African culture)
Applicants must submit:
- A completed application form which can be downloaded by clicking the scholarship name
- A letter describing the reasons why you would be a worthy recipient of the Scholarship. Include your contribution to the African community, other volunteer activities, your academic achievements, your most important accomplishments and your future goals
- A brief outline of your budget for the coming year including information on your expected sources of funding (e.g. Student Loan, parents, etc.)
- Two letters of reference from the two individuals named in your application. One must be a teacher from your school, college or university. The other must be from an individual, other than your professor, who is familiar with your community service
- An up to date official transcript.
- Applications must be received at the below listed address no later than 5:00PM September 30, 2011 Scholarship recipient will be announced at the6th ANNUAL AWCAA FUNDRAISING CONTINENTAL GALA and will be required to provide two professional photographs for publicity purposes. The board thanks all applicants for their interest in the Scholarship, and wishes them success in their studies.
